Jürg Stahel

Dr. Jürg Stahel was born in Winterthur in 1939. He studied Forestry Management at the ETH Zürich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), followed by Wood Biology Research for seven years. In 1972 he was elected Head Forester by the parish of Klosters/Graubünden, where he managed the mountain forest for three decades. Additionally, he also worked for many years as the editor of the publication “Bündnerwald”. His interest in tropical forests and the use of exotic timber led him to many foreign countries where he met U Mynt Htay, a carver of marionettes in Mandalay /Myanmar. Ever since, he and his grandchildren have been devoted puppeteers.
