Engelbert Deusch
Engelbert Deusch was born in Lower Austria in 1934 as the eldest of four children. When his father was called up to the military in 1940 and died, he undertook the responsibility for his siblings and supported his mother. In 1953, he began teaching at secondary and special needs schools as well as grammar schools. He was a UNESCO Consultant in Salzburg from 1967 to 1995. His 'UNESCO Weeks' initiative prompted the ministry to mandate project weeks and interdisciplinary teaching. He was involved in two UNICEF media publications: ‘Children and Young People in the Third World’ (1987) and ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’ (1992).
From 1976 to 1995, he was assigned to the Salzburg University of Education to train history teachers.
E. Deusch is the father of ten children. During summer vacations, he took his six oldest children on bicycle tours through Central and Western Europe and camped for weeks in mini-pack tents.
